Dr. Soufiane El Hallani is a Molecular & Anatomical Pathologist and an Assistant Professor at the University of Alberta. His learning journey started in Marrakech city where he completed his MD degree. He developed a strong interest in Genetics, so he decided to follow his passion by moving to Europe and completing a master's in human Genetics and a Ph.D. in Oncology and Cancer Biology from the University of Paris-South. He then moved to North America to pursue a post-doctoral research fellowship at the British Columbia Cancer Agency working on the development of image analysis and artificial intelligence in digital pathology. Motivated by the translation of research knowledge to the clinical side, he returned to the clinical track by completing a residency program in Anatomical Pathology at the University of Ottawa, then pursued advanced training in Molecular & Genetic Pathology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre and the Gynecologic Pathology fellowship at Stanford University Medical Center.
Dr. El Hallani is a strong advocate for the integration of precision diagnostics in the modern practice of anatomical pathology. In addition to his clinical duties in molecular and anatomical pathology at Alberta Precision Labs (APL) in Edmonton, he is the Research and Development Lead of the Solid Tumor Molecular Pathology program at APL and Chair of the Somatic Solid Tumor Working group of the Molecular Pathology Discipline Council.
